Distance Education

International students, not in South Africa, enrolled for qualifications accredited and registered in the distance mode, and not receiving regular tuition support on the campuses do not require a study visa. However, if they are in South Africa while studying, or coming to the country for workshops, they must be in possession of the relevant visa documents.

Examinations and Examinations Centers

Depending on the qualifications and the modules the IIE School of Hospitality & Service Management offers their examinations in two formats, namely:

- Take-home Exams

- Written Unseen Exams

Should you have any modules that require written unseen exams, than the process is as follows:

  1. Examination centres are locations at which distance students write their summative assessments and can most easily access additional support. These examination centres are typically, but not necessarily, campuses. Our own campuses are preferred as we can be sure of infrastructure and security. If students are not able to access one of our campuses or approved examination centres, then it is their responsibility to find an alternative examination venue. An approval process is in place for alternative examination centres.
  2. Students elect examination centres upon registration.
  3. Students register for their exam centre and can change these up to eight (8) weeks prior to the summative assessment.
  4. The additional support offered at the examination centres normally includes device wellness/compatibility checks, debtor management and access to the Information Centre (although all resources required for the qualification are available digitally).
  5. Leveraging existing capacity at site level is only done when there is no risk to existing offerings by doing so and when student services and ratios are not compromised for either cohort.
